"UK Company Launches AI Granny to Waste Scammers' Time"

Virgin Media O2 has introduced an AI chatbot called "Daisy," designed to fight back against phone scammers. Daisy, who sounds like a friendly grandmother, answers scam calls and keeps fraudsters occupied by engaging them in long, pointless conversations. This delays their ability to target real victims, especially older people who are often seen as easy targets. Daisy's job is to waste scammers' time and prevent them from stealing personal information or money.

The chatbot uses advanced technology to listen to callers, turn their speech into text, and respond in a convincing way. Daisy's persona is modeled after a sweet British grandmother, with her conversations focused on harmless topics like her cat or knitting. She never shares sensitive information, and scammers eventually get frustrated, realizing they’re wasting their time.

The system works around the clock, so it can tie up scammers at any time, preventing them from scamming others. The team behind Daisy has also added her number to scammer databases, so she automatically gets called by fraudsters. This clever approach not only protects vulnerable people but also gathers useful data to help law enforcement track down scam operations. In short, Daisy’s mission is to keep scammers busy and stop them from causing harm.
