"OpenAI's Sora Leak Sparks Artist Outrage Over 'PR Puppet' Treatment"

A group of artists testing OpenAI's new AI video generation tool, Sora, leaked access to it in protest against the company’s treatment and low pay. Sora, a highly anticipated text-to-video tool, can generate short, high-quality videos from text prompts. However, OpenAI has temporarily suspended access to it after the leak.

The artists, who were given free access to help test Sora, claimed they were treated unfairly by OpenAI. They said they were being used as “PR puppets” to boost the company’s image, without receiving proper compensation for their work. The group argued that they provided valuable feedback and did experimental work for OpenAI, but their pay was minimal compared to the publicity and marketing benefits the company gained.

The protest began when 20 artists, unhappy with their treatment, shared a tool online that allowed the public to access Sora for three hours. After this, OpenAI shut down access and started looking into the incident. In an open letter, the artists called on others who shared their views to support them.

An OpenAI spokesperson responded, saying that the participation of the artists was voluntary and that their feedback had been valuable in shaping Sora. The spokesperson also mentioned that OpenAI would be reviewing the situation.
